Water Heaters are some of the most important parts of a home. Heating your water up is ideal for the everyday luxuries we treat ourselves too such as hot showers. However, when they need to be repaired, people will often drag their feet because they dread the bill.
Symptoms of a Dying Water Heater
You can treat a water heater a lot like a person. There is a lot to tell about the water heater based on how old it is and the quality of the water pumping through its system. The three ways we suggest looking for symptoms are the water, the age, and the sounds.
- The Water
There are two tell-tale signs that something is going wrong
1. The Water is Rusty. If the water is rusty, that means that either the water has been sitting far too long or that it is beginning to erode the interior of the system. Both are bad for everyday use.
2. If there is water by the base of the machine, then you have a problem. This means that there is a leak which means something has been completely eroded. These are the most dangerous because they can lead to fires.
- The Age
Water heaters may be able to have a pretty good shelf life, but it doesn’t change the fact that there is an expiration date on them. If they are nearing the end of their lifespan, you need to call for a replacement or repair because there is a very sharp cutoff point for them being fully functional and being a deadly risk.
- Rumbling and noise
If you hear noise from your water heater, that’s not a good thing. That means that there is a ‘sediment’ on the bottom of the tank. Now, what happens is that if you have water that isn’t very pure coming into a system, it will boil and become hardened at the bottom of the tank, this ruins efficiency.
